Building Capability: Our New Electric Vehicle Maintenance Facility in the Pilbara
At Red Dog Renewables, we’ve always believed that electric vehicles (EVs) belong in the Pilbara. With more than 750,000km of clean kilometres clocked across mine sites, towns, and highways, the results speak for themselves: EVs are tough enough, smart enough, and ready for regional WA.
Now, we’re taking the next big step in building local capability by opening a new, larger facility in Karratha, dedicated to EV and hybrid maintenance.

STAY UP TO DATE
At Red Dog Renewables, our mission has always been about more than just putting electric vehicles (EVs) on the road. It’s about building the systems and support needed to give local businesses and communities the confidence to make the switch to cleaner transport. With our fleet now driving hundreds of thousands of kilometres across the Pilbara, one thing has become clear — EV adoption is growing fast, and the region needs infrastructure to match.
That’s why we’ve invested in a new, larger EV maintenance facility in Karratha, purpose-built to support both individual EV owners and fleet operators across the Pilbara. This expansion represents a major step forward in building local capability and ensuring the region is ready for the next wave of transport innovation.
Why We Expanded
As more businesses, contractors, and residents in the Pilbara embrace electric vehicles and hybrids, the demand for local servicing has grown rapidly. Until now, most vehicle workshops in the region have been designed with diesel in mind. While they remain essential for traditional fleets, they weren’t equipped for the unique servicing needs of EVs and hybrids.
This gap has often meant that EV owners had limited local options for maintenance, creating hesitation for some operators considering the switch. By establishing a dedicated facility here in the Pilbara, we’re closing that gap and giving drivers the assurance that their EVs can be serviced and supported close to home — without relying on city-based providers hundreds or even thousands of kilometres away.
What the New Facility Offers
Our new facility has been designed with the future of transport in mind. It’s more than just a workshop — it’s a hub for EV support in the Pilbara. Key features include:
Rapid charging facilities, so vehicles spend less time off the road and more time in service.
The latest EV servicing equipment, designed for both passenger EVs and larger fleet vehicles.
Specialist tools and trained technicians, giving owners confidence that their vehicles are maintained by experts who understand EV technology.
Fleet support for mine-spec vehicles and contractors, ensuring even the toughest vehicles used on remote sites can be serviced to the highest standards.
This facility is about more than just maintenance. It’s about building the infrastructure that underpins the Pilbara’s clean energy transition.
What It Means for the Pilbara
The Pilbara is one of Australia’s most important industrial regions. It’s also one of the most emissions-intensive, accounting for more than 40% of Western Australia’s carbon output. Transitioning to EVs and hybrids is a critical part of reducing those emissions.
But for that transition to succeed, businesses need certainty. They need to know their vehicles can be maintained locally and supported reliably. By investing in this facility, Red Dog Renewables is helping remove one of the barriers to adoption: concerns around servicing and long-term reliability.
For businesses operating in Karratha, Dampier, Paraburdoo, Pannawonica, and beyond, this facility means:
Less downtime when vehicles need servicing
Greater confidence to trial or expand EV fleets
Local expertise available without the cost and delay of sending vehicles south
This is a win for operators, a win for the community, and a win for the environment.
Looking Ahead
While this facility is an exciting step forward, it’s just the beginning. As EV adoption in the Pilbara continues to grow, so too will our capability. We’re already exploring:
Mobile servicing and charging hubs, to bring support directly to remote sites.
New EV models, like the BYD Shark 6, that offer even more capability for Pilbara conditions.
Expanded partnerships with local businesses, councils, and industry leaders to build confidence and scale adoption across the region.
Our focus is simple: keep the Pilbara moving while helping drive down emissions. Cleaner. Smarter. Pilbara tough.
